Two Littleport authors are celebrating after winning Local History Book Awards from the Cambridgeshire Association for Local History (CALH) at a ceremony held at St. John’s Church in Cambridge on 6th June. Both books are published by The Littleport Society.
Society member Linda Barker‘s book ‘The Changing Face Of Agriculture‘ which examines the changes within farming as observed by John Martin and the employees of J H Martin and Sons’ farm at Littleport, received her award from Dr. Evelyn Lord and Chris Jakes.

Upon acceptance, Linda took a few moments to tell the audience how her book initially began and then steadily evolved to include more interviewees with stories of working at the farm.

Our Chairman – John Goodge – also won a Local History Book Award for his ‘The Alehouses, Beerhouses, Inns, Public Houses, Taverns, and Breweries of Littleport‘, which details the vast number of pubs that once graced the streets and lanes of the parish of Littleport.

Alongside the pair, other winners were awarded for their books on fenland nature, the Must Farm archaeological dig, and the manorial maps of Doddington, with local historian Michelle Bullivant receiving a special achievement award.
Huge congatulations to all of the winners from this year’s awards.
